
Alex Simmons is an Emmy-winning director, producer and editor. His debut feature documentary, We Can Be Heroes, premiered at SXSW, where it won a Special Jury Award for Bravery and Empathy, and later took home the Audience Award at the Woodstock Film Festival. The film was acquired by Tribeca Films.
Simmons served as a producer on the Netflix documentary Karol G: Mañana Fue Bonito, which follows the global superstar on her record-breaking world tour.
A co-founder of Muck Media, Simmons has directed episodes of the series Trafficked with Mariana van Zeller (National Geographic), Dear… (Apple TV) and Chasing El Chapo (Univision), and has also produced or edited projects including Science Fair and Own the Room (Disney+). His work has won multiple Emmys and an Overseas Press Club Award.
Previously, Simmons wrote and directed the indie narrative Buddymoon, which won the Audience Award at Slamdance and was released theatrically by Orion Pictures.
On the music side, he has directed music videos and concert films for artists including Death Cab for Cutie, Mos Def, Sigur Rós, Flula Borg, and The Shins.
Originally from Moscow, Idaho, Simmons now lives in California with his wife and son. When he's not behind the camera, he's either coaxing his vintage Toyota Land Cruiser to life or playing infield for the Sliders of the LA Baseball Federation.
